What to Expect When Working With a Designer

We do the thoughtful and complex things so you don’t have to.

Working with an interior designer should feel exciting, not intimidating. At INDIE HOUSE, our process is designed to make thoughtful decisions feel clear, collaborative, and manageable from the beginning. We like to think of our process as being three defined phases: Discovery, Design, and Implementation.

Some jump out to us as top questions (or often time hesitancies) when people inquire about hiring a designer. How involved will I have to be? Is it worth the investment? What logistics should I know before hiring a designer? Here are three important takeaways that we believes sums up the experience and should put you at ease.

  1. We’ll make your life easier.
    2. You’ll still have a say in how things look.
    3. Updating your home is a fun & rewarding experience.

Now, here’s a look into our process and how it might look as we work together.

First, we start with discovery. During your initial consultation, we’ll learn about your space, style, routines, priorities, budget, and goals. You don’t need to have every detail figured out; helping you define the vision is part of our job. It’s good to go into a consultation perhaps knowing budget or being able to vocalize your pain points, but we are experts at guiding you into the process with questions that let us find an understanding of where you’re at.

From there, we move into design. Depending on the project, this may include space planning, finish selections, furnishings, lighting, custom details, and other elements that bring the space together. We’ll present a cohesive concept, gather your feedback, and refine the design until it feels right. The important part of this phase is your genuine feedback! You will not ever offend us. We want to know what you think of the concepts we lay in front of you.

Once the plan is approved, we coordinate ordering, scheduling, contractors, deliveries, and the many behind-the-scenes details involved in bringing a project to life. Finally, we complete the space through installation and styling. Typically we arrange one ‘final’ styling day where we have some fun, photograph, and celebrate the completion of the project!

Our role is to simplify the process with a rollout that is organized and enjoyable. You remain part of the conversation, without having to navigate all the details. Let us help you translate a feeling or an ideas into a space you will love for decades to come.

We would love to hear what you have in mind.
